Leonardo's Eco Biography

2008

  • Coming in the spring of 2008 Leonardo DiCaprio is producing “Eco-Town"  for Discovery Networks. The series is based on the rebuilding of Greensburg, Kansas, a mid western farm town that was devastated by a powerful Tornado. Greensburg will be rebuilt as a sustainable community, a model of green living that will restore a community of 1500 people, protect the town from future environmental disasters, and serve as a model to the rest of the world of intelligent design.
  • 11th Hour Action takes The 11th Hour on a campus tour of American Universities. Complete tour schedule.

2007

  • In August The 11th Hour is released in theaters. DiCaprio produces, writes and narrates the feature length documentary concerning the environmental crises caused by human actions and their impact on the planet. Leonardo becomes heavily involved in the production of the film spending countless hours in the editing bay with the production crew.
  • In conjunction with the film, 11th Hour Action.com is created and serves as an online forum where individuals and communities can take action in the sustainability movement.
  • Leonardo’s mom, Irmelin DiCaprio who serves as President of his Foundation is honored at Global Green’s Millenium Awards for her Environmental Community Leadership.
  • Leonardo joins IFAW’s (International Fund for Animal Welfare) Honorary Board of Directors.

2006

  • Leonardo continues working on his environmental documentary "The 11th Hour" which he produced, co-wrote and partly narrated on screen. He also continues to be very active in his passion to protect our environment by contributing to environmental causes and by supporting political candidates who advocate for the protection of our planet. He makes special public appearances to spread the word about the dangers of global warming, one being The Oprah Winfrey Show.

2004

  • Leonardo's Eco-site www.leonardodicaprio.org is launched and re-designed in order to offer visitors more information and resources.
  • Leonardo joins the NRDC’s Board of Trustees, Global Green USA’s Board of Directors, and Reef Check as an Honorary Chair.
  • December 9th, Global Green USA and Leonardo organize a private screening of "The Aviator” at the world famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.  More than a thousand fans and friends attend the event.
  • Leonardo produces and narrates a short film entitled “Water Planet,” which is available to be viewed on www.leonardodicaprio.org.

2003

  • Leonardo produces and narrates a short film entitled "Global Warning,” which is available to be viewed on www.leonardodicaprio.org.
  • Leonardo receives the Environmental Leadership Award from Global Green USA.
  • The Natural Resources Defense Council opens a new green building, featuring the Leonardo DiCaprio e-Activism Computer Zone.

2002

  • The DiCaprio Foundation receives the Martin Litton Environmental Warrior Award from Environment Now.
  • In August, he joins Global Green USA in urging our leaders to attend the Earth Summit in South Africa.
