Adam Markham

Deputy Director, Climate & Energy Program, Union of Concerned Scientists

Adam Markham is Deputy Director for Climate & Energy at the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), a science advocacy NGO based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A conservationist and climate policy expert, he works to accelerate effective responses to the climate crisis, and writes about climate impacts on biodiversity and cultural heritage. He is a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas and the Climate & Heritage Working Group of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). He was lead author for the recent UNESCO report – World Heritage and Tourism in a Changing Climate.

Through collaborative partnerships, we support innovative projects that protect vulnerable wildlife from extinction, while restoring balance to threatened ecosystems and communities. Our work is divided into six main program areas – Wildlands Conservation, Oceans Conservation, Climate Change, Indigenous Rights, Transforming California, and Innovative Solutions.
