Is Plastic Toxic?
Since the 1940s, some 87,000 synthetic new chemicals have been produced in the United States. These fabricated chemicals are the building blocks and byproducts of plastic products that infiltrate our lives in the form of plastic bags, water & beverage bottles, food packaging, kitchenware, cookware, paints, carpeting, childrens toys, teething rings...the list goes on. Plastic chemicals as well as many other environmental toxins enter the human body through the food we ingest, the water we drink and bathe in, and the air we breathe.
Do Plastic Toxins Affect Our Health?
Scientists have linked exposure to these chemicals to a host of health problems in humans, including cancers, asthma, hormonal changes, early onset of puberty, obesity, diabetes, birth defects, developmental and reproductive effects, infertility, endometriosis, and immune system impairment.
People are exposed to these chemicals not only during manufacturing, but
also through direct and indirect contact, as some chemicals migrate from
plastic packaging to the foods and beverages they contain.
Please visit the solutions page to learn how to minimize your exposure to
plastic chemicals.
