‘Dark Snow’ Arctic Research

Black soot mixed with snow. Courtesy of Jason Box.

The Dark Snow Project gathers ‘hard numbers’ from the Arctic to quantify the distant snow/ice melting impact of industrial and wildfire black carbon soot; mineral dust; and microbes, each melt factor having some human driven enhancement.

The goal of this organization is to enable the general public to fund earth science research and to provide educational insight into the current health of our planet. Research projects are primarily focused on climate change and natural hazard monitoring (i.e. earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, etc).
