Eastern Tropical Pacific Swimway

Creative Commons

A grant to Forever Costa Rica will support MigraMar and PACIFICO’s efforts to begin establishing a “swimway” between marine protected areas in the Galapagos and Cocos Islands. The implementation of the swimway will be a collaborative effort among Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panama and will protect critical migratory corridors for threatened marine species.

This will be the first transboundary swimway in the Eastern Tropical Pacific and will protect sharks, turtles, and other marine wildlife that migrate between the two island groups.

Through collaborative partnerships, we support innovative projects that protect vulnerable wildlife from extinction, while restoring balance to threatened ecosystems and communities. Our work is divided into six main program areas – Wildlands Conservation, Oceans Conservation, Climate Change, Indigenous Rights, Transforming California, and Innovative Solutions.
