Environment Now announced today that it has shifted its programming and grant making activities under the management of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in an effort to collaborate and share resources as both organizations seek to address the most urgent environmental issues of our time.

“We are very excited to form this partnership with Environment Now given how both of our organizations have a history of hands-on, collaborative activism,” said Terry Tamminen, CEO of LDF. “Together, we will pursue innovative approaches to achieving our shared goals.”

LDF, founded by Academy Award®-winning actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio in 1998, has focused on preserving habitats and endangered species on land and in the oceans, supporting indigenous rights and activists, and climate change, around the world. Environment Now, founded by the family of Frank and Luanne Wells in 1989, has focused on forest and coastal preservation, air quality, and water sustainability, primarily in California.

“Environment Now has created a powerful activist philanthropy model over nearly three decades. We are very excited to partner with the like-minded team at LDF in pursuit of our common goals,” said Kevin Wells, board chair of Environment Now. “Not only does LDF share our passion and drive to create meaningful change in the environment, but they also bring the opportunity and capability to integrate our programs with efforts around larger scale issues facing humanity, such as climate change, habitat loss, and global water issues.”

Environment Now will join LDF at a new action hub in Culver City, California, where activists can be mentored, new organizations nurtured, and the environmental community can collaborate to address the growing list of challenges to our sustainable future.

“The leadership, experience, and accomplishments of Environment Now are a model for effective environmental philanthropy,” concluded LDF Chairman Leonardo DiCaprio. “We look forward to working together to create an even more powerful force for change locally and globally.”
