Forest Director, Environment Now California Program
In a new essay for Rewilding Earth, LDF's Environment Now Forest Program Director explores the current threats to our national forests as the Trump administration and new Congress attempt to reduce environmental protections and increase logging. The essay also examines the latest scientific research on forest fires, showing how that research refutes erroneous fire-related claims used to promote logging. These findings instead point to a positive new approach that truly protects our forests while at the same time helps communities to safely coexist with wildfires as a natural and necessary part of western forests. As Dr. Bevington concludes,
Through collaborative partnerships, we support innovative projects that protect vulnerable wildlife from extinction, while restoring balance to threatened ecosystems and communities. Our work is divided into six main program areas – Wildlands Conservation, Oceans Conservation, Climate Change, Indigenous Rights, Transforming California, and Innovative Solutions.
