An international funders’ collaborative comprised of new and experienced philanthropists dedicated to protecting the world’s five oceans.
Marine Protected Area (MPA) Projects
Marine protected areas provide a number of ecological and economic benefits, yet a small percentage of our oceans are formally protected. To help achieve 20% protection by 2020, Oceans 5 grantees aim to not only create and expand MPAs, but to also ensure proper management, enforcement, and long-term financing.
Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing Projects
IUU fishing is a globally pervasive problem hindering the effective management of fisheries, disrupting economies, and concealing human rights abuses. Oceans 5 is funding efforts to increase transparency throughout the supply chain through policy implementation, cutting edge technologies, and careful coordination among relevant stakeholders.
Small Scale Fisheries
Fisheries are a vital source of food, employment, and cultural heritage for millions of people around the world. Oceans 5 works with partners to implement effective management measures in small scale fisheries to ensure sustainable use for future generations.
Plastic Solutions Fund
The Plastic Solutions Fund is a funders collaborative focused on reducing single use disposable plastics with a goal of phasing out all non-essential uses by 2035. It focuses on countries most vulnerable to pollution, seeking to build a global movement to eliminate plastic packaging waste and stem the flow into the world’s oceans.
