Safeguarding Atlantic & Mediterranean Elasmobranchs Through RFMOs

The Ocean Foundation, partnering with Shark Advocates International, Shark Trust, Project AWARE, and Ecology Action Center, is supporting efforts to secure protections from finning and overfishing for vulnerable elasmobranch species in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean through action by three regional fishery management organizations.

These multi-lateral organizations play a key role in fisheries management decisions, and this projects seeks to prevent the overexploitation of certain sharks and rays through the adoption of catch limits, better implementation of existing limits and a ban on at-sea removal of shark fins

Through collaborative partnerships, we support innovative projects that protect vulnerable wildlife from extinction, while restoring balance to threatened ecosystems and communities. Our work is divided into six main program areas – Wildlands Conservation, Oceans Conservation, Climate Change, Indigenous Rights, Transforming California, and Innovative Solutions.
